Apollo
Breed: Spanish Mastin
Age: 8 years old
Gender: Male
Location: Blandford Forum, England (in foster)
About Apollo:
Apollo is a gentle and affectionate older gentleman who recently arrived in the UK from a shelter in Spain. He has experienced a significant amount of stress due to the transition and is still adjusting to his new life. Unfortunately, he was not getting along with adopter's other male dog, causing distress to both animals.
Apollo is a loving dog who craves attention and affection, he was rescued as a stray dog in Spain and cared for by Animals Help. Apollo happily lives alongside cats.
Both in the shelter in Spain and during transport, Apollo has mixed well with both male and female dogs. On arrival to the UK Apollo was said to have been selective around some other dogs, he is experiencing a big change and it can take weeks to months for a rescue dog to settle in their new home. Many rescue dogs are not used to living in a home or being walked on a lead.
Apollo is now living with 11 other dogs, both male and female. Apollo is living on a farm in foster with space to roam, this means he is not being taken out on lead walks and will need lead trained.
Apollo requires a chicken free and grain free diet, he had issues with his skin when he was on chicken kibble in the shelter. His food was changed in Spain and his skin cleared up. Unfortunately Apollo was then fed chicken kibble and his skin flared up again. We have him on salon grain free kibble, alongside a joint supplement, his skin is improving but this will take a little time.
Ideal Home:
A calm and loving environment.
Owners who are patient and understanding of his adjustment period (arrived in the UK on Saturday 12th of April 2025).
Experience with livestock guardian breeds.
Important Notes:
Apollo has been through a stressful transition.
If you already have dogs meet and greets will be required (Blandford Forum, Dorset)
